I can only state my OPINION that people should not buy into this game until or if it comes out and they see the reviews.

    Here's some articles.

    http://www.kotaku.co.uk/2016/09/23/inside-the-troubled-development-of-star-citizen

    http://www.pcgamer.com/eight-month-...he-lid-on-star-citizens-troubled-development/

    http://www.escapistmagazine.com/art...alk-Star-Citizen-and-the-State-of-the-Company

    http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/star-citizen-backer-gets-his-3000-pledge-refunded.html

Here's a list of things that happened or are happening with Star Citizen, all are directly related to it and it's development.

Girls Club - A female star citizen wanted to create a female only org. Much gnashing of teeth was made over this. The OP was banned. Eventually she was unbanned, and the mod who did it was "taken off the active roster".http://forums.somethingawful.com/sh...1#post459050520

This is Bullshit - At an early CIG live event Chris attempted to load up the game on stage. After playing a few seconds it crashed. Chris exclaimed "This is bullshit!", thereby setting the stage for all future live events.

In Game Rape - Dude started a thread about in game rape being a needed feature of Star Citizen. Thread went on for two pages before somebody cared enough to close it.

The Wulge aka Dickwulf - Weird pervert who harassed women involved with Star Citizen. Is tolerated by the staff because he's given CIG at least 30,000 dollars and numerous gifts. http://forums.somethingawful.com/sh...1#post459050448

Transverse - Game publisher Infinite Games Publishing started their own crowdfunded space game. Seemed to be a ripoff of Star Citizen. They claimed they were going to make it wing commander online (because they said they owned the Wing Commander license) but changed it to transverse for some reason. The crowdfunding for the game failed spectacularly and all mention of the game has been erased from the internet. Here's an article on this bad thing: https://www.themittani.com/content/...l-transreversal
    [IMG]

Eric Peterson gets "fired", and catches a ban from CIG - Eric "wingman" Peterson was one of the founding members of CIG. For whatever reason he, and several others, quit/were told to leave/gave up and started their own game company. Even though he left the company he was still a presence on the RSI forums and chat. Til one day he got banned.
    [IMG] Wingman responds: [IMG]

Bettysbigtits - Someone by this name on reddit made a thread asking for advice on getting a ship for someone. They ended up being gifted an unknown number of ships from sexually frustrated nerds.

Lando Leak - Disco Lando, community manager for CIG posted a screenshot of his computer downloading a playable build of the game. He forgot to edit out the address of the download site, which turned out to be completely unsecured. Needless to say several community members managed to download the entire client and peruse the files for all kinds of neat ship files that nobody had seen, or heard about yet. There was also some squadron 42 spoilers.

David Jennison Letter - Mr. Jennison was an artist working for CIG. He left the company and penned a letter describing the conditions of working for Chris Roberts in a frighteningly negative light. This letter was called fake, but was later confirmed in Beerforthebeergod's email exchange with Sandi Gardiner. Here's the letter: http://forums.somethingawful.com/sh...2#post459173398

Beergate aka beer4thebeergod's email thing - In the beginning of this Star Citizen fiasco, beer4thebeergod was a minor celebrity in the Star Citizen realm. His questions got him on 10 for the chairman regularly and I think he even went to an event, or two, and met with the CIG staff. Anyway, at some point he started communicating, though email, with CIG staff (including Sandi Gardiner). He posted the emails for us to read and enjoy. We weren't sure about whether the David Jennison letter was real, until Sandi confirmed it for us in the emails. Here they are: https://archive.is/HcpZr

Escapist Article - An online news magazine did a not-so-flattering article on Star Citizen. Chris Roberts blew his lid and hammered out a three page angry response, even going so far as to bring up gamergate. Chris Roberts threatened legal action if they didn't take down the article, The Escapist held fast and refused to take it down, standing by their writing. Nothing ever happened legally from Chris Roberts or anyone at CIG.
    Escapist Article - http://www.escapistmagazine.com/art...-of-the-Company
    Chris's Response - https://robertsspaceindustries.com/...To-The-Escapist

Bootcha - Goon investor into CIG. Was present for the first live stream event in 2012. Helped move stuff at the CIG offices and was known to everybody there. Ended up losing faith in the project and pulling out.http://forums.somethingawful.com/sh...1#post459096635

Derek Smart "Threat" Assessment - Some moron over on reddit thought Derek was enough of a threat to CIG to do an analysis on him. Derek took action against the individual and an apology was immediately posted followed by the thing being deleted. It's save here:https://archive.is/1Ms7e

Star Marine - The supposed FPS part of Star Citizen. Was promised to be released in April 2015, but missed that. Chris Roberts promised us weekly updates until it was released (said it would be weeks, not months). This continued for a month or two and then everyone just quit talking about it. Illfonic, the company making Star Marine, was fired and Chris told everyone that he was "annoyed" with all the questions about Star Marine and that the FPS elements were already in 2.0.http://forums.somethingawful.com/sh...2#post459454527

Ryan Archer - "Artist" who made various material for CIG. Soon after he began working on another project goons realized he had literally stolen other artists work. And a lot of his work was simple tracings of other people's work.http://forums.somethingawful.com/sh...1#post459087941

Donutgate - Ben, and others, at CIG are severely overweight. And they mentioned starting diets. Sandi (there'll be an effort post on her later) was seen on several streams eating bags/boxes of candy treats in front of these people. Also offering many said treats. This activity culminated with her dropping a bag of fresh donuts right in front of these dieters on a live stream. So much was made of Sandi's poor behavior that they edited out her putting donuts on the table. http://forums.somethingawful.com/sh...1#post459069057

Doorgate - CIG offices in LA installed a custom automatic door. It was custom made to look like an airlock from one of the Star Citizen ships. It opens when employees scan an ID card reader. Chris Roberts tried to play off the obvious expense of such a door, claiming it was simply a garage door opener and some plywood put together by a couple employees for fun. Goon investigation found that to be a lie. http://forums.somethingawful.com/sh...1#post459069185

Ben-ghazi - Ben Lesnick, community manager and public face of Star Citizen tweeted a link to what he called his old website of "jokes". People started looking at it and found it contained some of the most vile racist/bigoted/sexist/perverted stuff around. Ben tried to play it off as jokes he made when he was a teen, but goon investigation found that he was in his mid to late 20's when he was doing it. He also had a gallery of over 1,000 images of a local news reporter that he stalked.http://forums.somethingawful.com/sh...1#post459069790

Pikey - CIG employee, Ray Roocroft, used this racial slur in a tweet about a bad wiring job done on his car. He then erased the tweet and blocked anyone who asked about it. http://forums.somethingawful.com/sh...2#post459455007

CIG pays digital agency to manage their online image (allegedly) There are reports that CIG is paying reddit moderators, twitch streamers, and online news sources to suppress negative opinions of Star Citizen, while inflating positive ones.http://forums.somethingawful.com/sh...2#post459582568

Customer Support Labels - CIG apparently labels customers as "snowflakes", "goons", or "High Maintenance" in their customer support software. http://forums.somethingawful.com/sh...3#post460737829

Sandi Featured in Stolen Art and more stolen art - An artist at CIG took a stock photo and shopped it into some other Star Citizen artwork. http://forums.somethingawful.com/sh...3#post460791763

Ticklegate - Sandi Apparently worked as a porn actress years ago for fetish videos. http://forums.somethingawful.com/sh...9#post462735244[IMG]

Sandi quits the internet - Sandi claims too much online harassment. Takes a break. lol http://forums.somethingawful.com/sh...0#post463081866 #istandwithsandi is actually a thing on twitter.

Too lazy to copy/pasta more but this is the tip of the iceberg. Don't think I mentioned the 3 Porsches that chris and sandi now own or the 15 thousand? dollar coffee machine they bought with backer money to put in their office.

    @Grimm ... you're not like a Star Citizen stalker are you? :)

It's too bad the game is failing, but stranger things have happened. I didn't follow it much at all because I don't like FPS flight simulator type games, even if they plan to be MMO's ... but everything I read at the beginning made me think that SC was supposed to rewrite the record books on game innovation and immersion and operating size. Personally, I don't care ... like I said, it's never been on my radar.

But I also respect folks that still want to hold onto the game until someone announced, like they did for EverquestNext, that the game is officially dead. It's the pure passion of a game makes us hold on the ones we want to see win ... I can't fault anyone for feeling that way, quite the opposite.

I remember back when @Zawr introduced me to Copernicus and gave me the run down how Tenacious was created for Aion, but the long term vision was always going to be Copernicus. Man, we theory crafted the living shit out of that game ... followed it like dedicated stalkers. Still held hope when it missed deadline after deadline, got uber excited when Kingdoms of Amalur was finally released ... our promise never waned even as Curt Schilling was filing bankruptcy ... for sure someone will buy the proprietary game rights ... surely someone will make it work. Not until the death knoll was announced did we lose hope.

So I feel for all Star Citizen watchers ... the reports suck, but it's the gamer in us that makes us care in the first place

I just don't like it when people are being taken advantage of. It's like being in an airplane with both engines blown and on fire, yelling "Holy shit we're going to die!!" while there are other people in the plane going, "Nah, the plane is fine, you're just a hater, everyone stay in your seats and don't use parachutes".

I like to keep up to date on the gaming industry, especially when there are things like this that will set a whole new precedent for crowdfunding and indie games. I personally haven't backed any games after the Star Citizen fiasco, there were tons that I wanted to back, but am just so turned off of it now. I got my refund for Star Citizen back when the Escapist article came out and Chris Robert's ensuing response was sent to them... so many things in the article rang true that I pulled out. It's been a crap-show ever since. The funny thing is I have no problem pre-ordering a game from a Publisher or proven indie company, because I know I will get the product I paid for. Anyway, I'm getting off topic. Just thought I'd leave some information for people who were maybe curious about it. If you really need to get into Star Citizen then buy a cheap-o package for like 50 bucks that you wont mind losing the money for, because you'll need to get your state's Attorney General involved to get a refund if you change your mind (Not kidding, actually happened).

All good @Grimm ... just always remember there's an equal and opposite opinion to yours nearly all the time

No one likes to be taken advantage of ... but stuff happens all the time. You just adjust your way of thinking to not get disappointed by expecting less. Do you know that of all the money the average person donates to charity in their lifetime, only 2% of it actually makes it all the way through the filter to buy an actual good or item or provide a service. The rest is spent on staffing, salary, advertising, regulations, permits and so on.

I prefer to believe the good in game developers, even though I've been burned before, many times.

Investment is risk ...it's practically the definition. You can't take a risk and then cry foul when it goes awry. Cheating and exploitation are one thing, but if you invest in the upside, always do knowing there's a possible downside

@Grimm jesus dude some of that stuff is really fucked up. I was very leery of SC when it first hit KS. I come from YEARS on EVE, so a new FPS space sim would be right up my alley. Then I saw the pricing for their buy in's, the prices for ships even in the planning stages of it. I was like nope, not my thing, so I watched from teh sidelines for a while while the fans loved iit and the haters hated it, but then I kinda lost track of it because I just knew with the money they had raised and what little they had to show for it, it wasnt going to be good for anyone.

Its unfortunate, because if it completely fails, I believe it will set back KS'd games for a long time while those burned for THOUSANDS of dollars become scared of reinvesting.

Was also hoping for an EVE replacement, as more exciting mining and manufacturing appealed greatly to me. When they first announced that huge mining vessel, I think it was the Orion? I almost blew hundreds on it. I still play EVE due to a lack of anything better. E:D is pretty good but it's more boring to me than EVE, which is saying something.

I think that Chris Roberts really wanted to make a movie and not a game because he's always been drawn to the Hollywood scene and trying to be a director (Wing Commander movie, lol so terribad) but failed at it. They've also dumped 62 million dollars into mocap and voice acting alone. Think about that, Literally half the money they have right now - on the cinematics. Remember when Roberts said they only needed 4 million to finish the game? It all seems so cute now.

Star Citizen is far from failing. And though many problems have arisen in view the of the public... it is still going. The fact they have an open dev policy ( something never been done so completely), the public can and will see many issues, or in office problems that normally would not come to light. The other problem being that Kotaku, PCgamer and other "gaming journalists" a borderline google graduates. Which means their sources are about as credible as Derek Smart is an awesome game developer.

I know the person who "leaked" stuff to the Escapist for their column that put SC into a bad light. I also have a family member who is working in the LA office right now. Development is strong. Gamescom was a huge success, the Citizencon event was impressive, and I play the current build 2-3 times a week.

I understand there is many who would love to see this game do a Sean Murray, but there is little chance of that.

As far as predging to new people.... remember this.

Do your research, follow the good "and bad" stuff that comes up. Remember that you are giving money to help production ( they are not paying a publisher). And if you don't feel you wanna pledge before a beta/release comes... then don't.

1mill+ people have all seen everything in that list... many times, and they are not sheep. And many hold CIG under heavy scrutiny. While others trust in the project.

Whichever camp you fall into... Decide for yourself.

Pledge, or buy on release. It makes little difference at this point.

    Star Citizen is coming...
    When?

    Soon. :)

so many things wrong with this post.

    - Open Development Policy - it's SO open that they don't actually tell us what's going on (Remember when Star Marine was weeks away from being released a year ago?) its also so incredibly open that only a select 400 "evocati" players get to test the new builds while other people eat dirt (oh you're a subscriber since kickstarter? too bad, you werent picked to play the pre alpha of the alpha of the game you paid 32,000$ to play)

    - Office problems only come to light because of leaks from people currently hired and working there and because of reporters doing investigative work using vetted sources.

Current leaks that gives a pretty accurate description about working with mr roberts:

    "
The best one, absolutely, deals with [a brand new employee]. It’s his, what, third day? He’s in the break room and Roberts storms in but is real quiet. Pulls the guy out and walks him in front of some other workstation. “What is this?” Roberts goes. The new guy, right outta college, is shitting himself. What could Roberts mean? Was something wrong with the desk? Was this where he’s supposed to be sitting? He’s got no idea.

“You know what this costs? You’re taking my time, everyone’s time,” and now Roberts is shouting, “it’s like you don’t care how much you’re costing us. Do you like spending my money?” Chris stands there, arms crossed, waiting for a response.

[The new guy] is scared stupid. He starts blubbering and apologising without having any idea what’s going on, right?

Chris points to the chair, “Sit your ass down and get it right.” He then storms off again. Poor guy has no idea what the fuck to do.

Turns out Chris thought he was [completely different employee]. He never apologised. Never went back to check if anything was fixed. [New guy] quit by week three
    .”

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

if they don’t push out 2.6 before 2017 hits, they are done

if they push out 2.6 before 2017, its going to be a terrible, contrived, bug riddled mess and then they will be done

they are seriously weighing those options right now. like having closed door, “what will we do about 2.6” meetings

I mean 3.0 is supposed to be here in less than 9 weeks, but is roughly a year+ out. 2.6 is the last saving grace for them before they start shitting out sq42 episodes and preludes and interludes and prelude dessidia final fight squadrons or whatever fucking kingdom hearts titled shit they have stored in the back there

do you know that they are talking about doing another crowd funded project? I’m not even kidding

At some point you have to ask yourself, if it's such a great place to work - why are so many high level and low level employees jumping ship? The people left are just padding their resumes and getting a paycheck until they can bounce.

    - So every website that speaks negatively about star citizen is horrible, which includes (but not limited to):
    http://www.kotaku.co.uk/
    http://www.pcgamer.com/
    http://www.escapistmagazine.com/
    http://www.forbes.com/ <- lol
    http://www.polygon.com/
    http://www.pcinvasion.com/
    https://www.rockpapershotgun.com

Man, that's a lot of websites/companies owned by Derek Smart.

    - Also, Derek Smart - boogeyman, check (I guess he's the reason why CIG has failed to hit literally every single timeline ever?)
People love to blame this guy for Star Citizen's failings, to a point where anytime you say anything negative about the game, you immediately get called Derek Smart and get jumped on and attacked. He's the boogeyman for SC.

    - So much leaked info has come out of the offices that's all come to be true. The Agent on the Goon forums has literally leaked every single thing that's happened accurately.
    - Development isn't strong - they are in such a huge ship debt that they can never tunnel themselves out, in a continual loop of selling concept art .jpegs before previous ships are complete, over and over again.
    - Gamescom and citizencon were huge failures, showing a scripted and buggy sequence on one planet, in fact the rate of refunds has skyrocketed since citizencon, a lot of the true believers are waking up and getting refunds.
    - At least Sean Murray released a finished game?
    - I agree on the research part, google star citizen and read every article you can find and ask yourself if this is a good investment or not.
    - they do not have 1 million players, not even close. in fact they have so little of a player base they had to beg reddit to test out their arena module because noone was playing it.

    - they're still blowing money on mo-cap - LOL. They've spent more than half their budget on mo-cap. It's INSANE. (60+ million dollars)

Hey Grimm... be as entitled as you like... no need to be rude.

all that OP regurgitation in your reply aside, I had to stop when I saw this...

    - At least Sean Murray released a finished game?

Sc fan or not... THAT was some funny stuff.

Not being rude, just stating facts. I know Star Citizen fans don't like that.

Sean Murray had a game that went gold and sold thousands of copies world wide - technically he's done more than Star Citizen has..and most likely ever will. Hard pill to swallow.

Also don't see where I'm being "entitled" but you guys love resorting to personal attacks when presented with any negative criticisms about Star Citizen.
